Employment  and Training

Individuals desiring to work may choose from facillity based or community based employment.  Community employment offers time limited and long term supports depending on the individual's disability and need.  Support services include External Situation Assessment, Job Exploration, and Personal/Social Adjustment.  These support services are available for individuals who want to move into community employment to identify barriers, determine potential, and establish vocational goals.

Supported Employment Enclaves - community employment with supervision.  Employment opportunities are available in a wide range of occupations and includes such jobs as landscape/custodial, food service, retail shipping/receiving, order picking, and warehouse maintenance.

Vocational programs offer training in a variety of paid "contract or production" work. Individualized training is provided
at Production Unlimited (a traditional sheltered workshop) and Arc catering & Specialties (a non-traditional sheltered workshop).

Community Employment assists participants in obtaining work in the community. Training is provided in "enclaves",
small work groups with an assigned Job Coach who work at various business sites. People can also be placed with an
employer through the Individual Placement Program. Individuals receive job coaching at employer sites throughout the
county. External Situational Assessment, Job Exploration, and Personal Vocational and Social Adjustment Services are
also offered. Some of the 'enclaves' currently operating are at the Modesto Bee (The Beestro), Juvenile Hall, J.C. Penney,
and Arc Catering and Specialties at the state-of-the-art kitchen on Stonum Road.

The Agency provides transportation through Transportation Services for individuals who need to get to work, but cannot
use public transportation due to the hours they work or their work location.
